Flash Wins California Energy Commission $5.8M Grant for EV Charger ‘Innovation Lab’ in Oakland

Flash Parking

The California Energy Commission (CEC) and Flash, a pioneer in parking + charging solutions, today announced Flash secured a $5.8 million grant from CEC for a large-scale electric vehicle (EV) charger demonstration project in Oakland, California. The first-of-its-kind project will deploy at least 446 low-cost Level 2 EV chargers over a two-year period in convenient, high-density, high-visibility installations in a 1.5-mile area around downtown Oakland. With $24 million in funding from California’s Clean Transportation Program, the CEC grant to Flash and other awardees aims to demonstrate replicable and scalable business and technology models to deploy Level 2 charging infrastructure and improve public awareness of and confidence in Level 2 charging access. The project will also include installation of two Battery Energy Storage Systems that will help safeguard EV charger affordability during periods of peak energy demand. “Bay Area residents’ early commitment to the EV transition uniquely positions this community to serve as an ‘Innovation Lab’ for electrification projects in California and nationwide,” said Matt McCaffree, Vice President of Utility Market Development for Flash. “This collaboration with CEC will not only show what’s possible in high-density smart cities like Oakland but also keep the charging gap for early adopters from becoming a confidence gap for the next wave.” Bay Area EV adoption continues to outpace the national average by a factor of three. By installing reliable, affordable, and convenient public chargers, Flash and the CEC aim to close the charging gap and encourage further EV adoption—particularly among downtown residents, for whom dependable public charging is a prerequisite for ownership in lieu of at-home chargers. The success of the project would establish quality public charging as a standard among the practical, convenient, and environmentally-friendly “smart cities” of the future. “For residents living in downtown areas where at-home charging isn't an option, reliable and convenient public charging is key for continued EV adoption,” said CEC’s Lead Commissioner for Transportation Patty Monahan. “The CEC is looking forward to Flash's deployment of hundreds of Level 2 chargers throughout downtown Oakland to be a model of successful public charging.” The project will also generate invaluable data regarding battery capacities, operating costs, replicable price points, and emergency procedures, as well as insights toward stimulating demand and increasing return on investment. This information can then be used to expand and improve upon the Oakland deployment and inform electrification efforts throughout California and beyond. About Flash Flash is a pioneering technology company bringing seamless parking and EV charging experiences to drivers through a first-of-its-kind digital ecosystem. Listen B*tch Tackles Toxic Bounce Back Culture, Encouraging New Moms to Embrace ‘Mom Puberty’ Instead

Listen B*tch

Canadian wellness brand, Listen B*tch, is launching a campaign that challenges bounce back culture and urges new moms to embrace the physical, psychological, and emotional transformation that comes with motherhood - a process they’re calling ‘Mom Puberty’. The campaign launches with a series of rallying billboards across Toronto alongside a digital gallery that offers an unfiltered view on the postpartum period while encouraging women to dismiss societal pressures to 'bounce back'. The campaign targets bounce back culture which disregards the physical and mental recovery needed postpartum and places unrealistic expectations on women to “snapback” to their former selves. “Embracing and normalizing the change you're experiencing is a powerful way to combat bounce-back culture,” says Listen B*tch Co-Founder, Daniela Angelucci-Rizzi. “Similar to adolescence, becoming a mother is a transitional period which involves physical, hormonal, psychological and emotional changes. That process is known as 'Matrescence’. Or as we like to call it - ‘Mom Puberty”. The campaign aims to redefine the cultural conversation around postpartum experiences by presenting a more realistic view of the joys and hardships that new motherhood presents. As part of this initiative, Listen B*tch is launching an online gallery showcasing unfiltered portraits of postpartum moms. The portraits are accompanied by personal narratives that explore their transformative journey into motherhood - the challenges, triumphs, and the things they think new or expecting moms should know. In addition to the online gallery, Listen B*tch is bringing this campaign to the streets of Toronto with billboards that champion the same message. The billboards can be found at, College & Dovercourt, Queen St West & Augusta Ave, Dundas St West & Rusholme Rd, Queen St West & Noble St, Queen St West & Triller Ave, and College St & Clinton St. On May 6th from 5pm-9pm, the general public will have the opportunity to attend an exhibit of the project at Cry Baby Gallery in Toronto. The brand is also donating copies of their New Mom and Pregnancy Affirmation Card Decks to support groups at Sunnybrook and North York General Hospital, as a way to provide tangible support and encouragement to women navigating the complexities of motherhood. To capture the raw portraits of the Canadian moms, Listen B*tch partnered with Toronto-based photographer and mom, Jorian Charlton whose work has been featured at the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Art Gallery of Mississauga, and the critically acclaimed exhibition - The New Black Vanguard. Listen B*tch is a Canadian, women-owned wellness brand that was co-founded by entrepreneurs Daniela Angelucci-Rizzi & Michelle Osei-Bonsu. The brand, best known for their cheeky deck of affirmation cards, launched two new affirmation card decks in 2024 focusing on expecting moms and new moms. Contact Details Langton PR Inc. Made in the USA: Ultrahuman plants flag in US with manufacturing facility UltraFactory to make first wearable rings in the country

Ultrahuman

With smart ring market leadership within its sights, Ultrahuman has today announced plans to open a manufacturing facility poised to accelerate its production capacity. The UltraFactory will be located in Indiana. It opens within the next six months and will be the launchpad for Ultrahuman’s next phase of growth. The UltraFactory will offer an end-to-end production capability and is based on the company’s first operational model of such a facility in India. This development comes hot on the heels of a $35 million fresh investment in the company (series B funding round) and reaffirms Ultrahuman’s ambition to become the market leader in the smart ring space in the next 12 to 15 months. The company has already seen phenomenal growth over the past year, becoming the second-largest player in the smart ring market while maintaining profitability. The opening of the new UltraFactory, will add a production capacity of 200,000 smart rings and present an additional $100m revenue opportunity annually. This is a push towards establishing smart ring market leadership in the US. Ultrahuman’s ability to make significant long-term manufacturing investments, supported by its profitability, is unique in the smart rings market. As a result, UltraFactory’s cutting-edge end-to-end production capabilities will enable the company to fully capitalize on what the company sees as its biggest competitive advantage: fast product development and iteration, and speed of execution in rolling out to global markets. With the US market growing in importance for Ultrahuman in recent months, the move will help the company lower costs in shipping and logistics, while aiding the US government in its push to strengthen domestic manufacturing rather than manufacturing in offshore locations, like China. This brings an expected hiring boom of 150 new Ultrahuman employees in the US over the next 12 months split between engineering and research (30%) and commercial operations (70%). Mohit Kumar, Founder and CEO of Ultrahuman commented: “US is an interesting market for us given it has always been huge in terms of demand for the product but we’re also seeing tremendous value from a manufacturing and research perspective. UltraFactory US would enable manufacturing for health tracking smart ring devices and give us the ability to do necessary research to evolve the form factor further.” Ultrahuman has seen phenomenal growth over the past 12 months, becoming the second-largest player in the smart ring market while maintaining profitability. "Our vision of being the top player in terms of both active devices and geographic presence is within reach, thanks to our rapid expansion and the love we've received from our users," added Mohit Kumar. UltraFactory will help Ultrahuman support its recent retail expansion into over 150 outlets worldwide, spanning iconic locations like London’s Selfridges on Oxford Street, Changi Airport in Singapore, and the Virgin megastore in Dubai. In addition to their smart ring called Ring AIR, the Ultrahuman product suite includes a continuous glucose monitoring wearable called M1 Live, a home health device called Ultrahuman Home and a preventive blood testing product called Blood Vision. Their platform integrates glucose, sleep, movement, blood markers, and HRV, offering a comprehensive approach to health monitoring. "Our growth is a testament to the user love for our products, highlighted by industry-leading NPS and engagement metrics since the launch of our latest model, the Ring AIR. Our relentless focus on improving user experience through continuous firmware and software updates is what sets us apart," Mohit Kumar emphasized. "Shipping a new firmware version every 2 weeks and weekly app improvements reflect our commitment to excellence and our speed of execution, our biggest competitive advantage. We’ve also iterated on hardware at the speed of software by designing novel devices like Ultrahuman Home, a home health monitor.” Looking ahead, Ultrahuman is on track to surpass $100 million in annualized revenue run rate (ARR) by the end of 2024, a milestone that will be achieved profitably. "Our ability to make long-term manufacturing investments, supported by our profitability, is unique in the smart ring market," Mohit Kumar noted. Ultrahuman's dedication to scientific validation and innovation is further evidenced by the completion of a clinical trial involving 105 participants, aimed at validating the ‘Metabolic Score’ generated on the Ultrahuman platform. "Our long-term investment in R&D and intellectual property is a cornerstone of our strategy, ensuring that our products not only meet but exceed the highest standards of efficacy and reliability," Mohit Kumar concluded. About Ultrahuman Ultrahuman is the world's most advanced metabolic fitness platform. Ultrahuman’s products include the Ultrahuman M1(continuous glucose monitoring sensor), the Ultrahuman Ring and Blood Vision, a preventive blood testing platform with the pioneering UltraTrace™ technology. By collating different biomarkers, Ultrahuman is helping people improve their energy levels and lifestyle, track their workout, sleep and recovery, and avoid metabolic disorders. Spring Trail Adventures Await: Five Reasons to Get Outside on Trails

YourUpdateTV

Spring is finally here and the outdoors are calling on us to step outside and explore. Rails to Trails Conservancy, the nation’s largest trail, walking and biking advocacy organization, is calling on people across the country to get outside on trails this spring to celebrate the many ways that trails and connected trail networks bring joy and impact to people’s lives. Central to the organization’s call to action is Celebrate Trails Day, hosted on April 27, 2024, with hundreds of events nationwide that serve to inspire more people to make trails, walking and biking part of their everyday lives. Recently, RTC’s vice president of communications, Brandi Horton, participated in a satellite media tour campaign to talk about how to make the most out of America’s trails. A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/878-0TEpKP8 Celebrate Trails Day is the annual celebration of the spring trail season, recognized on the fourth Saturday in April. The national day of celebration is organized by Rails to Trails Conservancy. RTC is dedicated to building a nation connected by trails, reimagining public spaces to create safe ways for everyone to walk, bike and be active outdoors. Here are five reasons to get outside on trails this spring, and on Celebrate Trails Day, says RTC: 1. It’s one of the best seasons for outside adventures with milder weather across the country—perfect for time on the trail. People can find their perfect trail using RTC’s free trail-finder app, TrailLink. 2. It's good for our bodies and the planet. Having spaces to walk and bike near where you live makes it more likely that you will be physically active, which is important for our bodies and our minds. And, when we swap out short car trips for walking and biking trips, we burn calories instead of carbon! 3. It can be a safe way to get around without a car. Currently, people who walk and bike are increasingly likely to be seriously injured or killed in crashes with cars and trucks. Connected trail networks separate people from vehicles, making it a safer transportation option for more people. 4. It's the right time to let elected officials know that trails matter to you. On Celebrate Trails Day and every day, our time on the trail is an act of advocacy sending a message that trails are important to people across the country. As Congress and local officials make decisions about ways to invest infrastructure resources, getting outside on the trail is an important way to build support. 5. There are more places to walk, bike and be active outside than ever! With more than 41,000 miles of multiuse trails—where you can walk, run, ride, skate and more—and over 150 trail networks emerging, there are safe places to walk, bike and be active outside in every single state and hundreds of communities across the country. To find creative ideas for getting outside, photo and video content for use with credit to RTC, reporters are encouraged to visit RTC’s Celebrate Trails Day website and follow #CelebrateTrails on social media. For more information about Celebrate Trails Day, to find events, and to enter to win prizes, visit railstotrails.org and follow #CelebrateTrails on social media. Follow #CelebrateTrails on social media for updates and connect with RTC at railstotrails.org and @railstotrails on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. ------------------------------------------------------ About Brandi Horton Brandi Horton serves as RTC’s vice president of communications. She partners with nonprofit organizations and government agencies to engage audiences in support of ambitious goals around community development, equity and inclusion, and quality of life. Brandi lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her family, where she regularly frequents the Four Mile Run and W&OD trails en route to work, the playground and little league games.
